History 10
- A second track opens between Kettering and Corby.
- 33 five-car trains, later the Class 810 Aurora, are ordered from Hitachi for £400 million.
- Abellio's East Midlands Railway takes over from East Midlands Trains.
- EMR Connect starts electric trains between Corby and St Pancras.
- A National Rail Contract replaces the emergency arrangements of the pandemic.
- Overhead wires are switched on from Kettering to Wigston, south of Leicester.
- The first Class 810 Aurora carries passengers, from Sheffield to St Pancras.
- Two EMR trains collide at Elstow, south of Bedford. A driver is killed and more than 160 people are hurt; the Rail Accident Investigation Branch is investigating.
- A reduced intercity timetable starts because of reliability problems with the new trains; it rises to 96% of the full timetable from 19 October.
- The Transport Secretary says EMR will be renationalised next year.
